GIS Based Hydraulic Model Pictures the Interceptor Future.
Abstract
This chapter assesses the hydraulic capacity of the Chartiers Creek Interceptor of the Allegheny County Sanitary Authority (ALCOSAN) to convey dry and wet weather flows under the existing and anticipated ultimate future development conditions. The assessment was performed by developing a hydraulic model of the interceptor system using U.S. EPA's computer program Storm Water Management Model (SWMM). The model consisted of 56 tributary sewer subareas, 75 sewer segments, 96 manholes, 34 orifices, and 34 weirs/outfalls. The input data for the model were extracted from a Geographic Information System (GIS) of the watershed. The watershed GIS consisted of data layers of digitized subareas, soil associations, and census tracts; present and future land use; and USGS Digital Elevation Models (DEMs).
